Health iPASS Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer (LinkedIn)Every October we see pink ribbons popping up all over due to Breast Cancer Awareness Month—but what’s it really all about?

The reason why breast cancer awareness is so important is that breast cancer is one of the most curable forms of cancer, provided that it is detected in the early stages. When confined to the breast at the time of detection, the average 5-year survival rate is 98%. The widespread use of screening mammograms over the 30 years has been associated with a 20% reduction in death from breast cancer, and the combination of early detection, awareness, and improved treatments has led to an overall 40% decrease in deaths from breast cancer since 1989, saving approximately 322,000 lives.  Even so, breast cancer is the 2nd most deadly form of cancer for women, with over 40,000 women expected to die from it by the end of 2018 alone. According to the most recent data from the American Cancer Association, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in her lifetime.

We at Health iPASS support the fight against breast cancer. Many of our staff here have been touched by it. That’s why we are switching to our new pink Breast Cancer Awareness logo for the month of October to contribute to the nationwide awareness campaign.  If you have not done so already, schedule your yearly mammogram, and encourage the women in your life to do so also. Donate to your favorite breast cancer charity organization. Practice self-care and reach out those who are currently engaged in this battle to provide support. We have it within our power to stamp out breast cancer deaths with the proper screening and by constantly improving research and treatments through the generosity of people like you.
